Today is September 20th, so what does that mean? It means that it’s National Pepperoni Pizza Day! Even though I am not eating pepperoni pizza currently, I wanted to celebrate by shouting out my current favorite pepperoni pizza. This pizza is the delectable Vodka Pizza from Woodfire in Downtown Dundee. They have two restaurant locations with the same menu, located in Rockford and Downtown Dundee. Woodfire sells some of the best homemade pasta and pizza I’ve ever had at a local restaurant. You can check out their website and menu here. The Vodka Pizza has a hot calabrian vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella, shallots, pepperoni, ricotta and basil. Between the slight spice from the sauce, the bite from the shallots, the creaminess from the mozzarella and ricotta, and the saltiness from the pepperoni, this pizza is well-balanced, unique and delicious. Also, their woodfire pizza oven gives the pizza dough a delicious crisp to the outer crust. If you’re looking for a new pizza place, definitely give Woodfire a try!
