I learned that today is National Apple Betty Day, so I baked this delicious dessert for the first time! If you’ve never heard of an Apple Betty, it is an American dessert made from fruit and a sweetened crumb topping. The recipe I found consisted of thinly sliced apples drizzled with orange juice, topped with a crumb topping of flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter. Mix together all the dry ingredients and then cut the cold butter into the dry mix. This can be done with a pastry blender, but you can also use a large fork. Cutting the butter into the flour mixture creates a course crumb topping similar to a cobbler. Sprinkle the crumbled topping on the apples and bake in a pie dish at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. It comes out bubbly, golden brown and delicious. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and prepare yourself for a warm, comforting, delicious dessert that’s perfect for the Fall Season!
