Happy Sunday! I didn’t post yesterday, because after work, I drove to Chicago to visit one of my best friends. I have been friends with her since Kindergarten and I always look forward to seeing her! For breakfast today, she placed an online order for pickup from Kasama. Pro tip to place an online order instead of waiting in line for hours grabbing whichever remaining pastries are left. Kasama is a Two Michelin Star bakery and modern Filipino restaurant in the East Ukrainian Village in Chicago. Their daytime menu is first-come-first-serve and their dinner service is reservation only with fine dining tasting menus. Today, we ordered two pastries and both were fantastic. The round pastry was a Ube Huckleberry and the long pastry was a Matcha Pondon Eclair. The Ube Huckleberry had a crisp, flaky crust similar to sinking your teeth into buttery croissant layers. The ube filling was slightly sweet, mellow and balanced the richness from the crust. Biting into the Matcha Pondon, it had a slightly crisp exterior and a soft, almost fluffy interior. The matcha cream on top was light, creamy and had a lovely essence of matcha. Both of these desserts had incredible balance of sweetness and flavors. These are hands down the best pastries I have eaten in a long time. If you are visiting Chicago and have the opportunity to stop by Kasama, I highly recommend it!
